Frequently asked questions

What are the eligibility criteria for your programmes?

Our programmes are for students who are currently studying at a university at either undergraduate or postgraduate level.

They are designed to combine advanced English language tuition with subject-specific teaching. We therefore suggest that students have a score of at least 5.5 (IELTS), 76 (TOEFL iBT), 600 (TOEIC) or equivalent level of competency in English (even if you do not have an official test score).

Our programme is open to applicants studying any degree discipline – you do not need to be a subject specialist!

What are study streams?

Streams allow students to specialise in different areas of the programme. For example, a student on our Politics, Media and Culture programme may choose to focus more on Politics, whilst another may spend more time on Literature or Shakespeare.

Some aspects of the timetable are shared across all students, whilst others are specific to a stream.

What is the application process?

Please visit the ‘Apply now’ page of our website and complete the short application form, setting out your educational background and reasons for wanting to study in Oxford. For further information, visit our ‘How to apply’ page or email us at info@oxfordsummerprogrammes.com.

When does the programme take place?

Our 2019 programme will run from 24 August – 7 September 2019.

How much does the programme cost?

The fee is £3,100.

What is included in the course fee?
  • All classes and tuition
  • Accommodation in Magdalen College (Saturday 24th August – Saturday 7th September 2019)
  • Return travel costs between all London airports and Oxford (air travel is not part of the course cost)
  • All meals (including picnics, banquets and cream teas)
  • All social and cultural activities (including all trips)
  • 3 Formal Halls: haute-cuisine, 3 and 4-course formal gourmet dinners
Do your timetables include any free time for students to explore?

Yes, we do include opportunities for students to spend time how they wish. In the past, students have gone to see a musical, spent time shopping or just taken the time to rest outside of the formal timetable.

However, our programmes include a rich and carefully-planned schedule of extra-curricular activities, and we strongly encourage students to participate fully in this. Not only do we design these to complement the academic programme material, they also provide an excellent opportunity to get to know your coursemates, professors and programme staff.

Full participation in the academic programme is mandatory.

Please also note that we cannot fund activities, including travel, that students wish to do outside of the programme schedule.

Can I see the programme timetable prior to applying?

The exact timetable for programmes is not typically finalised until the Spring prior to the programme start date, and small amendments can happen thereafter depending on lecturers’ availabilities. However, we can provide an indicative timetable based on previous years and lecturers and activities we have already confirmed. Please email info@oxfordsummerprogrammes for details.
